ADHD Consulting

ADHD Consulting: Summary

Consulting is for patients who have suspected ADHD, patients with outdated testing, or patients who are looking to be re-tested for any reason. We also perform ADHD consulting for healthcare providers.

Our process includes a full assessment of the patient to determine if they meet the criteria for ADHD based on current guidelines. This is accomplished by interviewing the patient and their family, reviewing history and records, using screening tools, and administering other psychoeducational testing (if appropriate).

After the assessment is completed, we will determine whether or not the patient meets the criteria for ADHD. A summary of our findings will be provided to you. A letter of diagnosis or a full report can also be sent to the school or office of your choice (extra fees may apply).

Please review the steps to our process below.

Steps to a Full Assessment:

Step 1 - Applying

Contact us to make an inquiry about becoming a patient. (Scroll down.)

Fill out an intake packet and send us your records. The packet has been designed to be thorough and will be reviewed along with the patient’s records before a first appointment is made so that we can best prepare for you.

Step 2 - First Appointment

At the first appointment, we will review the packet with you via telemedicine. If you want to add anything, you may at this time. If your child is the patient, your child will not attend this appointment so we can talk freely. It will be scheduled for about 30-40 minutes. Scales may be provided at this appointment if warranted.

Step 3 - Second Appointment

The second appointment is the family appointment. The appointment will be scheduled via telemedicine for about 20-25 minutes (ideally the same week as the first appointment), and if your child is the patient, we will interview you all together.

As insurance coverage allows, we’d love to talk with your child separately as well for a more thorough evaluation. However, insurance may dictate that this needs to be a separate appointment on a separate day.

Step 4 - Third Appointment (and Beyond)

The third appointment and subsequent appointments are based on your or your child’s individual needs. It will be held 2-3 weeks past the second appointment to give teachers and parents a chance to fill out scales. It may be one of the following:

  • If scales are not completed or have not been received yet, we will review what we have scored and discuss our next steps.

  • If we feel your child requires further scales or tests, we will review what we have and discuss why we feel there is a need for further testing. We will then make arrangements for this to be completed.

  • If the clinician feels that they need to meet with you or your child again, we will make that appointment. Depending on what the clinician requires, this appointment may need to be done in person.

  • If a psychiatric evaluation is recommended to help determine other possible diagnoses, we will discuss how to go about this.

  • If all of the scales and/or tests are in and we have made a determination of whether or not you or your child meets the criteria for ADHD, we will discuss a proposed diagnosis and treatment plan, and if appropriate, what kind of accommodations would be beneficial for your child in school. We will also discuss what your next steps are.
